The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is set to conduct the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) starting today, Monday, July 8.
A total of 570,461 candidates, comprising 282,648 males and 386,447 females, from 19,506 schools will sit for the examination at 2,123 centers across the country.
The examination will begin with English Language on Monday, July 8, and end with Arabic on Monday, July 15.
John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, addressing a media briefing in Accra, said school candidates will be examined based on the newly introduced Common Core Curriculum, while private candidates will be examined on the old syllabus.
WAEC has taken measures to ensure a seamless conduct of the examination, including the engagement of 2,123 supervisors, 1,889 assistant supervisors, and 19,973 invigilators.
The council has also made provisions for candidates with special educational needs, including braille papers for visually impaired candidates and large print papers for those with low vision.
Mr. Kapi cautioned stakeholders to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations for the conduct of the examination, warning that any form of irregularity would be punished.
The staff of WAEC, Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Ghana Police Service, National Security, National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), and external monitoring agents will monitor the examination.
WAEC has also urged candidates to be wary of rogue website operators who circulate fake questions and lure them into subscribing to those questions.
