2024 Election: Asiedu Nketia accuses House of Chiefs President of partisan politics

Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi, the president of the National House of Chiefs, has come under fire from Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the national chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for allegedly undermining the impartiality required of his position by participating in overt partisan politics.

As part of his Ashanti Region campaign tour, Mr. Asiedu Nketia accused the president of the National House of Chiefs of actively campaigning for the ruling party while donning t-shirts bearing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) logo during a community engagement in Konongo-Odumase.

He was worried that the House Chiefs President could not fairly criticize the government or maintain his neutrality on national issues because of his seeming support for the NPP.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia also criticized the president of the National House of Chiefs for failing to address important issues that Ghana has faced since taking office, arguing that his inaction has caused the nation to veer off course without the right direction.

The National Chairman of the NDC also emphasized how the National House of Chiefs has not stepped in to address ongoing controversies in the nation’s parliament, which he believed the House ought to have done.

The NDC chairman expressed worries about the NPP’s control over the National House of Chiefs elections as well, claiming that the ruling party had rigged the results by paying bribes to elect a candidate who would serve their interests.
