Richard Ahiagbah, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Director of Communications, claims that nationwide voter apathy was the main cause of the NPP’s defeat in the December 2024 election.
Speaking on the outcome of the election on Joy News, Mr Ahiagbah said, “The apathy in the party was unprecedented.”
He added, “ Nothing can persuade me that there was another incident. Simply said, our people did not show up to vote .”
The National Democratic Congress (NDC), which had been in opposition for the previous eight years, defeated the NPP in the polls on December 7.
The NPP has started advising its members—especially the younger generation—to avoid hostile messaging in the wake of the defeat and concentrate on reviving the party in time for the 2028 elections.
