Nine people were killed and fifteen others were seriously injured in a tragic accident that occurred Thursday afternoon, February 13, 2025, on the Walewale highway in the North East Region.
According to reports, a Sprinter car traveling from Kumasi to Nalerigu collided with a long truck that was stopped close to Walewale Township.
While the injured victims are being treated at the Walewale Government Hospital, the bodies of the deceased have been placed there.
The victims were taken to the hospital at approximately 1:30 pm, according to a hospital source who verified the incident.
The long truck was parked on the highway shoulder, facing Bolgatanga, and the Sprinter car was coming from Kumasi, according to witnesses.
According to the witnesses, the Sprinter driver was speeding when he saw the parked truck as he entered the Walewale township and lost control, which resulted in the fatal collision.
Several passengers were trapped inside the Sprinter as it was mangled by the impact of the collision.
Since then, the police have begun looking into the accident to find out exactly what caused it.
