COCOBOD refutes false claims of cocoa price increase

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has warned the public that a social media flyer that claimed the government had announced an increase in cocoa prices was untrue.

According to the regulatory body, the flyer claimed that Eric Opoku, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, had stated that cocoa farmers would receive 70% of the global market price.

COCOBOD asked stakeholders and the public to ignore the false information and only use official channels for updates on cocoa prices in a statement that was shared on its official Facebook page.

“Our attention has been drawn to a false flyer circulating on social media claiming that the Minister for Food and Agriculture has announced an increase in cocoa prices. This information is completely untrue,” the statement read.

The board emphasized, “We urge our cherished stakeholders and the public to disregard this fake news and rely only on official communication from COCOBOD and the Ministry.”

The clarification comes at a crucial moment when cocoa producers and industry participants are keeping a careful eye on possible price changes in the face of global market volatility.
