This year, President John Dramani Mahama has revealed intentions to fly 5,000 pilgrims from Ghana to Mecca for the Hajj.
Speaking on the subject during the Hajj village’s sod-cutting ceremony on Friday, February 28, President Mahama emphasized the need of meeting the payment deadline and making sure that all required preparations are in place.
“This year, we intend to airlift exactly 5,000 pilgrims to the holy land, and the task force has announced 13th March as the deadline for payment,” President Mahama stated.
He emphasized that a pre-finance agreement with a nearby bank had been made, guaranteeing that all deposits for lodging, transportation, and other amenities had been made.
The task force was also directed by President Mahama to rigorously follow the 5,000-pilgrim limit in order to avoid any last-minute rush and difficulties.
“I’ve instructed the hard task force that they should cut off at exactly 5,000 and not go beyond 5,000. We don’t want the previous situation where people rush with late payments, and we are unable to airlift them and become complaining,” he added.
