A delegation from the C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) management and donor group has paid a working visit to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). The objective of the visit is to provide the CFF Project Advisory Group (PAG) members with insights into how the projects are prepared and structured on the ground.
The CFF project, sponsored by the governments of the UK, Germany, France and the United States is providing Technical, financial and Capacity Building Support to the city of Accra to prepare a finance-ready project for the introduction of Waste Source Separation and the construction of a compost plant for Accra. The project among other things seeks to increase waste recycling and composting, reduce waste disposal and ultimately reduce GHG emissions from landfills and open burning as well as generate jobs and improve work security and safety for the workers in the waste sector.
The delegation led by a representative of the donor group, Ms Ingrina Ingrina Shieh (UK government, through FCDO) included Hajo Junge (Co-Director, GIZ), Ingrid Simon (Co-Director, C40 Cities), Henri Gebauer, Head of City of Operation at CFF, Bryn Boyce, Head of Regional Engagement, C40 Cities Finance Facility, Maxine Mueller, Head of Doner Partnership, Tangmar Marmon, Energy and Sustainability Cluster Coordinator, GIZ and Abraham Afful, Senior Project Advisor for Accra.
Before the site inspection, the delegation paid a courtesy call to the Mayor of Accra, to discuss the progress and challenges of the solid waste source separation and composting project, which was aimed at revolutionizing waste management practices in the city.
Speaking on behalf of the C40 Cities Finance Facility, Ms Ingrina Shieh highlighted the importance of close collaboration between the CFF and local authorities in driving sustainable urban development agendas.
