The Electoral Commission (EC) will conduct by-elections today in the Ashanti region’s Ejisu constituency.
This comes after Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, the late Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament (MP), passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Kwabena Boateng has been nominated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to compete for the vacant seat in politics.
On Saturday, April 13, 2024, Mr. Boateng emerged from a selection procedure that included nine applicants. Mr. Boateng is tasked with maintaining the party’s position in light of Dr. Kumah’s departure.
The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), chose not to take part in the by-election.
As a result, Kwabena Aduomi, a former constituency MP who is running independent in the by-election after splitting from the NPP, is Mr. Boateng’s opponent.
There will be a by-election from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The EC has announced that it is prepared for the Ejisu by-election.
