John Dramani Mahama, the former president and leader of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has emphasized that, should he win the presidency on December 7th, he will work with the public and private sectors to restructure the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
Mr. Mahama claims that the refinery’s operational issues are a result of it being a state-owned company, and he is amenable to a private partnership revitalizing TOR.
Mr Mahama believes the refinery needs significant attention, and a transparent process for private participation is crucial in bringing the refinery back into operation and running it efficiently.
Speaking at a gathering that included representatives from the Association of Oil Marketing Companies, Chamber of Bulk Oil Distribution, Tanker Drivers Union, Chamber of Petroleum Consumers-Ghana, Institute of Energy Security, and other petroleum service providers, Mr. Mahama made these remarks.
The former president emphasized his prior commitment to creating the “Ghana we all want,” which he claimed involves taking advantage of the potential and problems in the downstream petroleum industry.
He urged for cooperative work towards a more robust and sustainable petroleum industry for the benefit of all Ghanaians and thanked all of the attendees and industry players for the fruitful conversation and insightful ideas.
