District election: EC to conduct run-off in some electoral areas

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, it will hold elections in specific electoral districts where ties were found in the recently concluded District Level Elections (DLE).

The EC clarified that the results for assembly members were the same in 20 electoral areas. It further stated that in 41 additional electoral areas, the unit committee race yielded identical results.

“As a result, there will be the need to conduct run-off elections in these areas to break the ties to determine the winners in these electoral areas.”

Michael Boadu, the Electoral Commission’s acting head of public affairs, signed a statement containing this information.

The elections will be held at every polling place in the electoral areas where ties were reported, according to the EC.

Effiduase West in the Ashanti Region, Bono [Adantia], Bono East [Bonya], Konya-Brehoma, Volta Region [Legba-Klikpko], and Eastern Region [Akwamufie, Awosoase] are a few of the electoral areas.

There were certain difficulties during the national district level elections that were held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
