Two pregnant girls, one nursing mother, and four absentees have been recorded at three centres in the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Bekwai municipality of Ashanti Region.
The centres are Dominase M/A JHS, Ofoase Kokoben Senior High School, and Anwiankwanta SDA School.
Out of the 110,742 candidates registered in the Ashanti region, 55,567 are female and 55,175 are male, sitting in 407 centres across the region.
The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Dr. William Amankwa Appiah, and the Kumasi Metro Director of Education, David Oppong, have urged candidates to avoid examination malpractices and remain calm and confident throughout the exam.
They also assured the candidates that the government’s free SHS programme is ready to benefit and help shape their future.
This year’s BECE candidates are the first group to be examined on the newly introduced common core curriculum, which is the standard-based curriculum.
The examination will be taken over six days instead of the previous five days, due to the introduction of three new subjects: Career Technology, Creative Art and Design, and Arabic (optional).
