Immigration Service arrests 26 irregular Immigrants engaged in online business scam

The Ghana Immigration Service, Yendi Sector Command arrested Twenty-Six foreign nationals who have been recruited into a suspected fraudulent online networking business Q-NET in Yendi municipality in the Northern Region.

This operation was part of efforts by the Ghana Immigration Service to manage migration and to ensure the safety of every citizen in Ghana.

The Yendi Sector Command revealed that Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects did not have the requisite documents to support their stay in the country, which implied that, they entered the country illegally through unapproved routes.

These ECOWAS nationals are made up of seventeen (17) males and Nine (9) females, aged between Eighteen (18)and Forty (40) years.

According to the Ghana Immigration Service, “these illegal immigrants were allegedly recruited from Burkina Faso to engage in cybercrime and other illegal activities within the Yendi Municipality, adding that, the apprehended persons confirmed that they are into Q-NET Business, which is about convincing people to join the business where interested persons are registered to compulsorily purchase any quantity of their products such as watches, jewelries, and other health-related products. And anyone who brings new entrants earns a commission.”

Chief Superintendent William Morwu Korley, the Yendi sector commander of the Ghana Immigration Service told Metro News that some of the suspects confirmed they were made to pay monies ranging between CFA 800,000 and CFA 3,000,000 by the people who lured them into the Q-NET business before bringing them to Ghana to scam people.

Investigations are still underway by the intelligence unit of the Ghana Immigration Service, Yendi Sector Command to uncover any other such activities within the Municipality.

The Yendi Sector Command has therefore sent a reminder to property owners to verify the immigration status of foreign tenants, as mandated by the Aliens (Registration) Regulation, 1974, L.I 856.

Chief Superintendent William Morwu Korley expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Guntiyili and the entire community for their unwavering support in causing the arrest of these perpetrators.

He also used the opportunity to implore all and sundry not to hesitate to report persons of unusual characters living in their respective communities, saying it would go a long way in helping the service to arrest anyone who wants to disturb the peace in the Yendi sector and beyond.
