Step down in order to protect the govt and yourself – Atta Akyea tells Ofori Atta

Samuel Atta Akyea, the Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, has pleaded with Ken Ofori-Atta, the Finance Minister, to think about resigning for the benefit of the administration as well as for his own sake.

The persistent economic difficulties facing the nation have contributed to the months-long surge in calls for Ofori-Atta’s resignation.

The Finance Minister has been under fire from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has been particularly outspoken in its criticism of him.

Mr. Atta-Akyea stressed the value of self-reflection for Mr. Ofori-Atta in an interview with Citi TV, advising him to take into account his position for both his own and the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) well-being.

“For me, what is very frightening is the fact that you have a whole army of people saying look you’ve had enough…I think that that could be a way for him to relax. Look at all the burdens on one man. So it is his individual decision to make as to whether he should  go or he should continue.”

Atta-Akyea went further, stating that Ofori-Atta’s resignation might even contribute to calmer waters for both the government and the nation. ”

“He should look at himself and look at the troubles that everybody believes, I mean when he is not there then the nation will have peace…He should save himself and save the government and have his peace because he needs it,” Mr Atta Akyea said.
