Member of Parliament for Krachi West, Helen Adjoa Ntoso, who also serves as the Ranking Member on the Gender and Children Committee, has revealed the reasons behind the delayed passage of the Affirmative Action and Gender Equity Bill, 2024.
She attributed the bill’s delayed passage, which took over two decades, to the absence of continuity.”
The former Eastern Regional Minister acknowledged the pivotal role successive Gender Children and Social Protection ministers played during their regime.
She lauded the contributions of Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Cynthia Morrison, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, Lariba Zuweira Abudu and the current sector minister Darkoa Newman in ensuring the passage of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity Bill, 2024).

Parliament passed the Affirmative Action, Gender Equity Bill 2024 on Tuesday, July 30.
The legislation, now known as the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Act, seeks to promote gender equity in both the public and private sectors, tackling historical discrimination against women and entrenched patriarchal socio-cultural systems.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, announced the passage of the bill, saying, “Honourable members, the ‘ayes’ have it. The Affirmative Action Gender Equality Bill 2024, now the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Act, has been duly read the third time and passed.”
