Swearing on my son’s life in 2020 shows how committed I was as NDC Director of Elections — Elvis Afriyie Ankrah

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of elections, has advised Ghanaians to reject rumors that several prominent party members have taken sword-swearing blood oaths.

“That publication is inaccurate, misleading, and deliberately twisted to suit the agenda of our detractors,” Mr. Ankrah stated in a statement released on Thursday.

In a sword-wielding video that has gone popular on social media, Mr. Ankrah and other NDC officials are seen taking an oath. They swore allegiance to the party and pledged to protect it at all costs.

Mr. Ankrah clarified that during his tenure as the NDC’s Director of Elections, he ordered the aforementioned event to be held in advance of the 2020 election.

“It is yet another example of how seriously I took my role and how committed I was to ensure that we did our work with the utmost integrity in the interest of our party and its members and supporters,” he added.

According to Mr. Ankrah, the film was unrelated to the national executives of the party or the individuals in charge of organizing the general elections scheduled for 2024.

“I therefore urge the public to ignore the fake news.”

“I also call on our members and supporters to rally behind our party officials and support our national officers in our quest to win the next elections and deliver the people of Ghana from the hardships and misgovernance of the Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government,” he further stated.
