Ghana and Sri Lanka deepen bilateral relations

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, made a working visit from 18th -20th August, 2024 to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, where she met with M.U.M. Ali Sabry, her counterpart.

The discussion centered on bilateral issues with the goal of fostering closer relationships between Ghana and Sri Lanka and looking into potential avenues for increased collaboration.

A major turning point in the relations between Ghana and Sri Lanka was reached when the two leaders of the two countries reiterated their commitment to fostering stronger political, cultural, and economic links during a meeting that took place on Monday, August 19, 2024.

The Ministers discussed prospects for cooperation in trade and investment, tourism, renewable energy, the textile and apparel industry, and other areas while highlighting the significance of mutual support at international fora.

The decision to set up a business forum with pertinent stakeholders from Ghana and Sri Lanka in order to promote communication, share ideas, and investigate possible collaborations that could promote growth and development of both countries’ economies was a significant result of the talks.

The conversations included a lot of talk about climate change, and both leaders emphasized the importance of speaking with one voice when calling for more aggressive global climate action. They emphasized how critical it is to strengthen teamwork in addressing environmental issues and to back programs that promote sustainable development.

Taking advantage of the occasion, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey set forth her goals for the Commonwealth and formally declared her candidacy for Secretary-General.
