Ghanaian media urged to uphold ethical standards

The Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, has urged media professionals to exercise responsibility in their job, especially in the age of artificial intelligence (AI), since a free and responsible press is essential to the advancement of a country.

The Minister, who delivered the speech at the Ghana Journalists Association’s (GJA) 75th anniversary celebration in Accra, stated that while artificial intelligence is significant and potentially beneficial, responsible journalism should go hand in hand with this innovation.

“A free and responsible press is critical to national development so the Ministry would continue its training programme for journalists, which has so far benefited 149 people,” she said.

According to Madam Abubakar, the Ministry of Information would keep working with the media to strengthen their capabilities as part of its efforts to support journalists’ work.

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), also asked participants to take use of the opportunity to collaborate and address issues plaguing the sector in order to promote national development.
