Fire outbreak at Job 600 block of Parliament

A fire has completely destroyed portions of the Accra Job 600 building, which houses MPs’ offices.

Although the precise source of the fire is still unknown, it did damage a warehouse.

There are still investigations underway to determine the cause and degree of the damage. Thick smoke was spotted emerging from a few offices as Ghana National Fire Service workers attempted to put out the fire.

Employees and staff within the building were quickly evacuated to prearranged meeting places while emergency services attempted to put out the fire and looked into its origin.

President Akufo-Addo ordered the construction of Job 600, an addition to the Parliament Chamber, in November 2020.

The building is a component of larger initiatives to fully solve the long-standing infrastructure issues that Parliament faces. It was built as part of the Parliament House Physical Infrastructure Enhancement Project.
