The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the timelines for the re-run of the parliamentary primary election in the Walewale constituency, following a High Court ruling.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party has approved the following timelines: “Opening of nomination: Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Nomination Closure: Thursday, September 5, 2024. Election: Sunday, September 8, 2024.”
The statement also outlined the guidelines for aspiring parliamentary candidates, including the payment of a non-refundable application fee of GHC 3,000.00 and a non-refundable filing fee of GHC 35,000.00.
However, women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will receive a 50% rebate on the filing fees, paying GHC 17,500.00 instead.
The statement defined youth as individuals between the ages of 18 and 40.
“No one will be denied access to purchase nomination forms,” the statement assured.
The party has also constituted an Elections Committee to oversee the process, comprising Alhaji Haruna Mohammed as Chairman, Alhaji Nurudeen Fuseini as Vice Chairman, and others.
The detailed rules and regulations governing the conduct of the parliamentary primary election will be made available to stakeholders, and nomination forms will be available for purchase at the constituency party office.
The statement said the NPP is committed to ensuring a fair and transparent process.
