NDC to hold nationwide protest over voter register ‘irregularities’on Sept 17 – Asiedu Nketia

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has declared that the party will stage a nationwide protest on September 17th to protest the Electoral Commission for not ordering a forensic examination of the voter registration for the polls in December.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah said the NDC has not gotten any updates on the status of the investigations into individuals detained for stealing certain Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs), among other problems pertaining to the way the poll was organized.

He said that among other things, the lack of information has sparked suspicions, which is why the demonstration is now required.

Speaking at the Electoral Commission’s headquarters following the submission of nomination forms for their flagbearer, John Mahama, Mr. Nketia stated,“Those of you who have been asking us what we would do if they did not comply, this is your answer: on the 17th of this month, the NDC is embarking on a massive nationwide demonstration in all 16 regional capitals.”

He asked members to visit the various offices of the Electoral Commission around the nation, and for those in Accra to go to the headquarters in order to file more petitions.

According to Mr. Nketiah, these petitions ought to demand that the Electoral Commission act in a way that guarantees free, fair, and tranquil elections.
