NCA Boss promises lower data prices by year-end

The public has been reassured by the National Communication Authority (NCA) that data rates will drop by the year’s end.

This is in reaction to complaints about expensive data plans and subpar offerings.

The NCA explained that rather than impeding MTN’s business activities, the company’s designation as a Significant Market Power (SMP) is meant to encourage fair competition.

The Authority intends to enact policies that promote competition and safeguard consumers, such as tariff parity and uneven interconnection prices.

In an interview with Citi FM, NCA Director General Dr. Joe Anokye emphasized how the NGIC wholesale carrier-neutral open access network will enable operators to buy bulk data more effectively, which will save costs.

With the network rollout anticipated later this year, he expressed optimism that data prices will decline.
