Democracy Hub Demo:Over 20 protesters arrested

During their three-day protest against the current economic crisis, a number of demonstrators from the Democracy Hub organization were taken into custody by police at the 37 Roundabout on the second day.

The protest abruptly changed its original objective, which was on the economy, and was renamed as an anti-galamsey (illegal mining) event.

The demonstrators were warned by the police not to congregate at the same spot as the day before, and this led to the arrests.

About 20 demonstrators are thought to have been taken into custody by the police, though the precise number of those detained and the charges they may face have not yet been officially announced by the police.

On the other hand, a lot of people have been talking about the arrests on social media, with some asking for more information and others raising worries about the right to peaceful assembly.

After arresting demonstrators, police made an inventory of the cell phones they had taken.
