Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Director of Elections and IT, claims that the Electoral Commission (EC) is terrified to provide the party access to the final voters register.
According to him, the reason for this is that the Commission is afraid of more inconsistencies the party may uncover from the register.
He claims that in light of the impending elections, the EC’s decision to withhold the register is concerning and calls into doubt the openness of the voting process.
According to Mr. Boamah, the postponement shows a lack of commitment to guaranteeing free and fair elections.
Dr. Boamah conveyed the NDC’s dissatisfaction, saying that the party had made several requests for the final voter registration, but the EC had not provided a satisfactory response, during a meeting on Monday, September 23, with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other stakeholders.
He made a suggestion that the EC’s hesitation might be a sign of more serious problems within the electoral body, which would heighten people’s concerns about potential anomalies or attempts to rig the election.
“The EC has not released the final voter’s register to the political party, but it claims it has resolved all our (NDC) concerns without knowing them.
“But they can’t start printing the register without giving us a copy. I feel they are afraid to release the register to us because they don’t know what more discrepancies we will expose,” he stated.
