Outspoken politician and the Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has issued a stern warning to employees against participating in the upcoming nationwide strike organized by labour unions.
The strike, scheduled for October 10, 2024, is in protest of the government’s handling of illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
In an interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Kofi Jumah stated that the issues prompting the strike are national concerns and do not directly affect GIHOC.
He emphasized that joining the strike would be against company regulations and would result in termination.
“If you like, don’t report to work. Anyone who joins them will be sacked,” Kofi Jumah said in Twi.
“There are labour laws in the country. Let the issue be a national concern, not GIHOC’s own.”
Meanwhile, the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has announced its solidarity with labour unions in the fight against galamsey but will not participate in the strike.
GMA President Dr. Frank Serebour clarified that the association has not planned industrial action and expects members to continue providing uninterrupted medical services.
