Black Stars left to rue missed chances in draw with Sudan

The Black Stars were left to regret missed opportunities as they were held to a goalless draw against Sudan at the Accra Stadium, putting their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in serious jeopardy.

Ghana started strong, dominating the early stages of the match but failing to capitalize on their chances. Alexander Djiku hit the post just four minutes in, while Antoine Semenyo and Jordan Ayew were thwarted by goalkeeper Mohammed Mostafa.

As the match progressed, Sudan found their footing, effectively stifling Ghana’s creativity and making it challenging for the Black Stars to penetrate their well-organized defense.

In the second half, the Black Stars regained their momentum and consistently threatened the Sudan goal. However, the Sudanese defense, led by goalkeeper Mohammed Mostafa, remained steadfast, denying Mohammed Kudus, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, and Antoine Semenyo with a mix of solid defending and excellent goalkeeping.

Ghana, having only two points from three matches, now faces a challenging road ahead of their important return fixture on October 15, 2024, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

The Black Stars will need to secure a win to keep alive their hopes of qualifying to the 2025 AFCON which will be played in Morocco.
