Convener of Democracy Hub, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, was rushed to the Police Hospital earlier today due to severe health concerns, the pressure group has announced.
Barker-Vormawor has been in police custody since September 23, 2024, after being detained during the #StopGalamsey and #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests on September 21, 2024.
In a statement provided to Metro TV, Democracy Hub expressed grave concern for Barker-Vormawor’s wellbeing, stating, “We are gravely concerned for his wellbeing and urge the authorities to act swiftly in addressing his health needs.”
The pressure group also called on the public to keep Oliver Barker-Vormawor in their thoughts and prayers during this critical time.
This marks the second time Barker-Vormawor’s health has deteriorated since his detention.
Despite multiple appeals to the High Courts in Accra for his release, he remains the only protester denied bail, while the other 52 activists were released on bail on October 9, 2024.
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed Barker-Vormawor’s hospitalization.
Medical professionals are currently conducting tests to assess his condition and determine whether hospitalization is necessary.
Democracy Hub remains steadfast in their belief that justice will prevail, quoting Galatians 6:9, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
