Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has expressed his opinion that Otto Addo should continue as the coach of the Black Stars despite the recent poor performances in the AFCON qualifiers.
He emphasized that Otto Addo should be given the support and faith to continue the project he has started, especially since Ghana still has World Cup qualifiers to look forward to.
This statement comes after Ghana’s 2-0 loss to Sudan, which has put them at risk of not qualifying for the AFCON for the first time since 2004.
“I am not one of those who will say we have to sack Otto. We have to keep faith with him and make sure that he continues the process he has started because remember we still have the World Cup qualifiers,” George Afriyie told Asempa FM.
“We have to give him the needed support. Going forward in this Afcon [qualifiers], let’s accept that we are out and allow Otto to take his decisions and learn on the job and then we move forward.” he added.
The defeat leaves Ghana with only two points from four matches, meaning they must win their last two games while hoping that Sudan, who currently have 7 points, loses both of theirs.
In the meantime, Angola has secured qualification for the AFCON after defeating bottom-placed Niger, bringing their total to 12 points.
