Former Black Stars striker, Prince Tagoe has expressed his disapproval of the team’s technical handlers’ decision to name Mohammed Kudus as captain over Jordan Ayew.
Mohammed Kudus was named captain for the team in the doubleheader against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after Thomas Partey was unable to participate due to a medical issue, a choice that Tagoe has expressed disagreement with.
According to Tagoe, Ayew should have been given the captaincy role, as it would have brought peace and unity to the team. He added that Kudus is a good player but needs to be patient and wait for his time to lead the team.
“You can’t give the captaincy to Kudus when Jordan is present in the team. You don’t do that. Kudus is a very good player, but you need to be patient and allow his time to come before you give him the captaincy,” he said on Angel FM.
“When you do it at the right time, you will feel the impact and he will feel well. The confusion in the team takes its root from all those things and it’s the major problem we must tackle. We must look at the captaincy issue,” he added.
After the first leg of the AFCON qualifiers, which ended in a scoreless draw, Jordan Ayew was captured in a video expressing his frustration during a conversation with Sudan’s Ghanaian coach, Kwasi Appiah.
Reports suggest that Ayew was unhappy about being overlooked for the captaincy role. Ghana then suffered a 2-0 defeat in the return leg in Libya, leaving them in third place in the group with two points.
The Black Stars are scheduled to face Angola and Niger in their final qualifiers in November
