Ghana’s first locally produced ride-hailing app, GoRide, was officially launched by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In order to empower Ghanaian taxi drivers who have been increasingly challenged by foreign-owned digital transportation platforms, GoRide was developed in collaboration with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).
The inaugural event, which took place in Accra on Wednesday, October 30, focused on the app’s objective to help local drivers by providing more equitable terms and a viable substitute for global ride-hailing services.
“With a competitive commission of just 10%, our drivers are being empowered to retain their hard-earned money, allowing them to improve their financial stability and support their families.
GoRide is a component of a broader government initiative to support local companies, Dr. Bawumia emphasized. “This is about restoring dignity to our divers and ensuring that they thrive. This initiative reflects our government’s unwavering dedication to supporting local businesses and driving growth by keeping the profit generated by GoRide.
The vice president also emphasized the platform’s economic advantages that are driven locally.
“Within our borders, we are conserving foreign exchange, fostering local wealth, and creating and enhancing our national economy. Every ride taken on GoRide contributes directly to Ghana’s economy, helping to build a sustainable forth for all of us,” he stated.
The GoRide app, which is currently accessible on both iOS and Android, claims to increase economic independence and wealth retention in Ghana in addition to revolutionizing accessibility and convenience in the transportation industry.
