Bawumia launches local streaming platform GMX

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has introduced Ghana Music Xperience (GMX), a brand-new music streaming service created in Ghana to help and encourage local musicians.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized during the launch that GMX wants to close the distance between Ghanaian singers and their fans in the local and international markets.

Dr. Bawumia’s speech tackled a significant problem that Ghanaian musicians face: insufficient payment from international streaming services.“They receive very little from the foreign music streaming apps,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia claims that GMX is intended to guarantee that Ghanaian artists are fairly compensated and that their creations and traditions are maintained. “This is what the Ghana Music Xperience, which is more than just a music streaming app, offers,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized how important it is to have a music platform that is exclusively for Ghanaian musicians. . “In the midst of having myriad streaming platforms, having one that is purely dedicated to Ghanaian music and musicians, is a welcome addition in our digitalization journey as a country,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted the difficulties local musicians encounter due to piracy and international streaming platforms, elucidating how these problems hinder artists from using their robust Ghanaian fan base.“The vast fan base of every Ghanaian musician is Ghanaian, yet they do not make enough money from this strong fan base at home,” he stated, expressing confidence that GMX will shift this dynamic.

The NPP presidential candidate expressed hope for Ghanaian music’s future and urged all Ghanaians to embrace the platform.

“I am very confident that with the support of all of us, through the patronage of the GMX, the game will now change for our musicians and industry to get their deserved compensation,” he added.

Stakeholders in the industry are optimistic that GMX, which has now been formally launched, would usher in a new era for Ghanaian music by empowering musicians and expanding their influence outside.
