Election 2024: NPP condemns NDC’s ‘unwarranted’ attacks on former President Kufuor

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the personal attacks on former President John Agyekum Kufuor by some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement signed by Henry Nana Boakye, the party’s National Organizer said one Dela Edem, a member of the NDC’s National Communications Team and campaign aide to former President John Mahama, made derogatory comments about President Kufuor’s health, saying “President Kuffuor is evil, and that’s why he is in a wheelchair and has been cursed to remain in a wheelchair” during a TV XYZ interview.

The NPP described these comments as “despicable, shameful, and disgraceful” and called on former President Mahama to condemn the statement and apologize to President Kufuor.

“The deafening silence of the NDC’s flagbearer, John Mahama, and the leadership of the party days after Mr. Edem’s disgraceful conduct against the respected former president cannot be overlooked,” the statement read.

The NPP also highlighted President Kufuor’s contributions to Ghana’s development, citing programs such as NHIS, School Feeding, Capitation Grant, Free Maternal Care, and Metro Mass Transport.

“Ghanaians will forever be grateful to the former President for these monumental development programs, most of which continue to benefit the Ghanaian people,” the statement said.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying he is the best person to lead Ghana against the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama.

Describing him as “unique” and “man of the moment” for Ghana, the former president noted Dr. Bawumia’s rise from professor, senior consultant to the African Development Bank, Deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana and vice for eight years makes his the perfect candidate for the presidency.

However, the endorsement did not go down well with Dela Edem who unloaded on former President Kufuor during an interview on the pro-NDC radio station.

He stated that Kufuor’s administration was “bad” and that he had amassed wealth by “hoarding Ghanaians’ money”, after changing the Ghana’s currency.
