Why I turned down Alan’s running mate offer – Okyeame Kwame explains

Ghanaian musician, Okyeame Kwame, has divulged that he was approached by John Alan Kyerematen, an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 elections, to be his running mate.

However, he declined the offer, citing concerns about protecting his family.

Okyeame Kwame told Accra-based  Joy FM that Alan Kyerematen had outlined 10 criteria for his ideal running mate, which Okyeame Kwame met.

Despite this, he decided to turn down the offer due to the potential risks and challenges that come with partisan politics, particularly considering his children’s ages – 15 and 13.

Okyeame Kwame emphasized that his family’s well-being and safety were his top priority, and he couldn’t jeopardize that for politics.

He also mentioned that being a vice-presidential candidate wasn’t part of his family’s plans, and he needed to be consistent with the values he teaches his children.

Instead, Alan Kyerematen chose Kwame Owusu Danso, a lawyer, broadcaster, and PR consultant, as his running mate.

Okyeame Kwame continues to focus on his music and advocacy, particularly in areas such as health, education, and environmental preservation, as a ‘Made in Ghana’ ambassador.
