Detective Corporal Baba Amando Ibrahim, who works at the Tuna Police Station in the Savannah Region, had been placed under interdiction by the Ghana Police Service due to claims of professional misconduct.
The interdiction comes after a video of the police punching a member of the public went viral.
In accordance with the Police Service Regulations, the Police say the measure is being taken to enable a comprehensive inquiry of his behavior.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has personally contacted the victim’s family to reassure them of the Service’s support, the Police Service said in a brief statement.
The Savannah Regional Police Commander has also been instructed by the IGP to work with the family to resolve the issue in a suitable manner.
