New Patriotic Party (NPP) Manifesto Committee spokesperson on health Dr. Ekua Amoakoh says education is a top priority for her government and the Akufo-Addo-led administration has heavily invested in the sector.

During her submission on Adwene Pa on Original TV, Dr Ekua Amoakoh emphasized government’s commitment to infrastructure, and systematic improvements in the educational sector.

Dr. Ekua Amoakoh detailed the efforts of the governing NPP, stating that since assuming office in 2017, it has focused on developing infrastructure with support from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET Funds).

According to her, over a thousand projects in secondary schools have received funding allocations. These projects aim to accommodate the increasing number of student enrollments resulting from the Free Senior High School program.

Additionally, She mentioned significant investments in E-block projects to reduce commute time for students.

She explained that her party has built additional dormitories to complement the E-Blocks day schools constructed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the presidency of John Dramani Mahama.

She noted that involving Ghanaians in these developmental plans is crucial for fostering nationwide support, as transparency will ensure that citizens understand the broader mission of the Ministry of Education.

Dr. Ekua noted that the Ministry of Education and by extension the government’s effort go beyond construction projects.

“The focus is also on reforming learning systems and teaching methods to create a lasting impact,” she added.

She divulged that the aim is to move away from the traditional system of cramping of exams, instead the ministry is equipping schools with modern tools such as smart boards to ensure a smoother teaching process.

She revealed that the NPP has made strides in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, which the initiative includes the establishment of 20 STEM schools and 25 STEM centers in existing schools. She said these initiatives aim to bridge the gap between theory and tactical learning while empowering Ghanaian students to compete on a global stage.

She added that teachers are benefiting from these reforms and acknowledging that their welfare including research allowance has been prioritized to ensure they deliver quality education in a conducive environment.

“It is possible” is not just some random phrase but a guiding principle to transforming every sector in Ghana,” she added.
