Every four years on December 7, Ghanaians make the biggest decision that could either change their lives for good or worse, depending on the leader they choose as their president. December 7, 2024, is a crucial election year for Ghanaians.
Ghanaians are gearing up for the upcoming election in a big way. The presidential race involves 12 candidates, with the current Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party; former president John Dramani Mahama for the National Democratic Party; the rising figure Nana Kwame Bediako, known commonly as Cheddar of The New Force; the former Trade Minister Alan Kyeremanten as an independent candidate; and other candidates.
Given Ghana’s economic situation, some Ghanaians are left questioning every policy of the presidential candidates. Some have decided not to vote, while others are still in the decision-making process, reminiscing about who should lead the country or who can make Ghana a better country.
There have been a lot of campaigns with a lot of policies. Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia (NPP), known for his economic expertise and digitalization initiatives, has policies, some of which are to expand public infrastructure, provide better healthcare for all Ghanaians, reduce the cost of living, and expand Ghana into a world-class digital economy.
That being said, former president of Ghana John Dramani Mahama (NDC), who seeks to return to office, also has policies that are to reduce economic decline and restore stability and inclusive growth to the economy, integrate the Free SHS Secretariat into the education directorate for better oversight, restore the road toll, and expand its collection system.
Cheddar, on the other hand, as an independent candidate, has captured attention with ambitious proposals. He has shared his policies with Ghanaians, which has brought him followers for his campaign.
According to him, the first task he will perform as president would be to pioneer a regional industrial revolution in each of the 16 regions of the country, make Ghana a tech hub, build a nuclear power plant, and construct a renewable energy infrastructure. One that overwhelmed Ghanaians was constructed: Ghana’s first water transportation and an 800 km railway line across the country.
All these are some policies of some presidential candidates for the 2024 elections. Ghanaians are left to decide the leader of the country. The question is who will the Ghanaian people choose as the president of Ghana? What policies answer or address the pressing challenges facing the nation? And most importantly, who will transform Ghana and make it a better place for the people in the country? All these questions will unfold on December 7, 2024, when Ghanaians head to their ballot post to cast their vote and make another history in Ghana’s democracy.
In a nutshell, Ghanaians hold the power in their hands and will decide one way or the other who the next president of Ghana will be. All that needs to be done is to cast their vote for whom they want and not because of money influence from any of the candidates. The peace of the nation is important and needs to be taken into account before anything else. Because we only have one country.
