Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hawa Koomson, has lost her seat to National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor.
Certified results available to Metro TV shows that Naa Koryoo Okunor secured 50,886 votes, narrowly defeating Koomson’s 45,638 votes out of 96,524 total valid votes cast.
The total votes cast in the parliamentary race stood at 97,159, with 635 rejected ballots.
This outcome means the main opposition National Democratic Congress has flipped the Awutu Senya East Constituency, which has been held by Hawa Koomson since 2012.
In the presidential race, John Dramani Mahama of the NDC garnered 54,480 votes in the constituency, while his closest contender, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), earned 38,942 votes.
