Akufo-Addo statue in Sekondi-Takoradi vandalized

The statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, which was unveiled by the President himself, was discovered to have been vandalized on Monday, December 16, which shocked the residents of Sekondi-Takoradi.

Some Takoradi residents had vowed to demolish the statue of President Nana Akufo-Addo that stands in front of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi-Takoradi, Western Region.

The statue has been discovered to be partially damaged, suggesting that this promise has only partially been fulfilled.

At the rear of one of the statue’s legs, a noticeable, wide hole was found on the morning of Monday, December 16, 2024. Whether the damage was intentional—caused by those who opposed the statue—or the consequence of a structural flaw is still unknown.

During his tour of the area prior to the general elections, President Nana Akufo-Addo unveiled the statue at the entrance of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi.

The statue was built to commemorate a number of significant regional projects that were started under Akufo-Addo’s leadership, such as the renovation of Takoradi Market Circle, the building of the three-tier Sinohydro interchange, and the rehabilitation of Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, according to Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah.
