The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
In a press statement on Monday, December 30, WAEC said the results can be accessed online at the Council’s website, (https://www.waecgh.org) Heads of schools will also receive login details to access the results of their candidates.
A total of 460,611 candidates, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females from 1003 schools, sat for the examination.
This represents a 2.66% increase from the 2023 entry figure of 448,674.
The performance of candidates in the four core subjects is as follows:
English Language: 69.52% (317,701) passed with grades A1-C6, while 30.48% (139,703) obtained grades D7-F9.
Mathematics (Core): 66.86% (305,132) passed with grades A1-C6, while 33.14% (151,778) obtained grades D7-F9.
Integrated Science: 58.77% (286,072) passed with grades A1-C6, while 41.23% (198,635) obtained grades D7-F9.
Social Studies: 71.53% (326,253) passed with grades A1-C6, while 28.47% (130,106) obtained grades D7-F9.
WAEC has also cautioned candidates to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee.
“WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated using its results verification system,” the statement emphasized.
The Council has withheld the results of some candidates due to alleged examination irregularities, including collusion and possession of mobile phones during the examination.
These cases are still under investigation, and the withheld results may be released or cancelled depending on the outcome.
