The President of Ghana, H.E. John Mahama, has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to conduct an expedient investigation into the terrible deaths of eight Ghanaians during the 2020 and 2024 general elections.
According to a statement made, these incidents have left an indelible stain on the nation’s democratic process, necessitating immediate and open action.
A letter signed by Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Secretary to the President, emphasized the government’s dedication to ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
The recommended solutions include developing a separate unit within the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to handle just these cases.
In addition, extensive interviews with eyewitnesses and victims’ families are recommended to acquire vital evidence.
The government also requested an assessment of election security arrangements to identify gaps and obligations during the affected periods.
The President’s directive seeks to restore public trust and ensure the integrity of Ghana’s democratic process.
