Sign anti-gay bill immediately – Ahiagbah tells Mahama

NDC revocation of last minute appointments baseless-Richard Ahiagbah

Richard Ahiagbah, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) director of communications, has urged President John Mahama to swiftly sign the anti-gay measure into law.

According to Mr. Ahiagbah, Mr. Mahama has reneged on his earlier pledge to sign the LGBTQ+ Bill during the 2024 election campaign.

After the President stated that the law could not be approved in its current shape, he made the call in a Facebook post.

Mr. Mahama stated that in order for the law to be more successful than the present Private Member’s law, it must be supported by the government during a meeting with religious leaders on Tuesday.

He clarified that presenting a measure supported by the government would enable more extensive engagement and help to forge a national consensus.

The President also emphasized the necessity of changing school curricula to incorporate lessons that represent African and Ghanaian values, such as cultural and moral education.

Mr. Ahiagbah has, however, underlined how crucial it is that Mr. Mahama fulfill his pledge, pointing out that elections have repercussions.

“Sign the bill as you have pledged to Ghanaians,” he asserted in his post.
