EC resumes collation of Ablekuma North Parliamentary results

Electoral Commission's (EC)

The Electoral Commission’s (EC) former headquarters in Ridge, Greater Accra, will continue to compile the results of the Ablekuma North Constituency’s parliamentary election today at 8 a.m.

The Returning Officer, Vincent Obeng, resigned on January 8 amid disagreements over the authenticity of pink sheets, marking the latest setback in the collation process, which has been plagued by delays and disagreements.

Mr. Obeng had previously informed the media that the results from four of the seven polling places that were still open had been finalized, making the collation almost finished. However, the procedure was halted for the sixth time due to disputes regarding the validity of the results from three polling places.

Results from 278 of the 281 polling places in the Ablekuma North Constituency have been confirmed. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the two competing parties, continue to clash over the remaining three polling places.

“It’s so unfortunate for me to make this statement that I’m done with Ablekuma North,” Mr. Obeng said in his resignation announcement, expressing frustration over the protracted process. His choice has made an already tense situation even more complicated.
