In response to President John Dramani Mahama’s letter, Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has directed investigations into the deaths that occurred during the 2020 and 2024 elections, according to the Chronicle Newspaper.

The report claims that the IGP has assigned a specialized investigative team to the CID Headquarters and given them deadlines to complete their work and deliver their findings to him.

According to the paper, Chief Superintendent Joseph Nanegbe chairs the group, which is composed of extremely knowledgeable and accomplished Ghana Police Service officers.

According to the report, the IGP promised the President in his letter that the team would have access to all resources necessary to meet the goal.

The paper states that the investigative team’s work will be based on the work that the IGP and his team have already done on the topic since he took office in 2021.

The source hinted that among other important measures, Dr. Akuffo Dampare established the Cold Case Unit at the CID headquarters upon taking office to guarantee the ongoing investigation of crime-related cases that had not been resolved.

It stated that the Cold Case Unit, which has been investigating the deaths connected to the 2020 election, has made significant progress in the case, and that some suspects are now being prosecuted for the crimes.

In a letter to the Inspector-General of Police dated January 10, 2025, President John Mahama ordered inquiries into fatalities that happened during the 2020 and 2024 elections.
