The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has been commended for taking into serious consideration Climate change matters, creating ministries in that order and appointing well vexed personalities in that field.
The commendation came from a Climate Change oriented Journalists in Ghana working seriously to promote proper waste management and climate change, Mr. Doe Benjamin Kofi Lawson affectionately called RSM Kofi Doe Lawson.
According to the RSM Kofi Doe Lawson , President John Dramani Mahama has shown that Climate Change is a priority to his government therefore the maintenance of these ministries, Lands and Natural Resources, Food and Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Environment Science and Technology, Works, Housings and Water Resources.
He commended the President Mahama for going the extra mile and creating an important portfolio to be headed by an MP at the Presidency.
Mr. Doe Lawson continued that the opportunity for Hon. Issifu Seidu (MP) to be Minister of State to manage Climate Change, and Sustainability is a very big boast.
He added that the move is in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 13 therefore the need for commendation.
Sustainable Development Goal 13
13.1 Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries
13.2 Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning
13.3 Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning
13.A Implement the commitment undertaken by developed-country parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to a goal of mobilizing jointly $100 billion annually by 2020 from all sources to address the needs of developing countries in the context of meaningful mitigation actions and transparency on implementation and fully operationalize the Green Climate Fund through its capitalization as soon as possible
13.B Promote mechanisms for raising capacity for effective climate change-related planning and management in least developed countries and small island developing States, including focusing on women, youth and local and marginalized communities
Acknowledging that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is the primary international, intergovernmental forum for negotiating the global response to climate change.
