YEA CEO Kofi Agyepong steps down

Kofi Baah Agyepong, the CEO of Ghana’s Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has formally resigned from his role with effect from January 24, 2025, citing personal obligations and goals as the cause.

Agyepong considered his time as CEO of the agency for the last two years, describing it as “an honor and a privilege” in a letter of resignation to President John Dramani Mahama.

“I am formally tendering my resignation as the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), effective 24th January 2025,” the letter stated. “However, I have decided to step down to focus on personal commitments and aspirations.”

As he expressed confidence in the agency’s future accomplishments, Agyepong also wished the President continued wisdom and strength in his service to the country.

Agyepong oversaw important programs during his time there that increased Ghanaian youths’ entrepreneurial and vocational skills and addressed youth unemployment. He worked to lower unemployment rates and provide opportunities for youth nationwide during his tenure at YEA.

Noting that he is still “within reach on all matters that require urgent attention and consideration,” he promised that the transition would be smooth.

Mr. Agyepong’s resignation occurs at a time when the Youth Employment Agency is still playing a crucial role in addressing Ghana’s pressing youth unemployment problem. His departure creates a big leadership void as the agency fulfills its mission.
