Fourteen days after taking the oath of office, President John Dramani Mahama fulfilled his promise to the Ghanaian people by presenting the first batch of ministers at the Flagstaff House.
On the 22nd of January, 2025, President Mahama swore in 23 sector ministers, three ministers of state, and 16 regional ministers to take on the pressing task of revitalizing Ghana.
In his address, President Mahama revealed that the full list of ministers will soon be expanded with names of deputy ministers for some ministries.
“As the ministers are approved by Parliament and sworn in, I will proceed to name deputy ministers for some ministries, bringing the total number of ministers to 60,” he stated.
He emphasized that this number is part of his commitment to create what he described as Ghana’s “leanest and most efficient government in history.”
President Mahama acknowledged the challenges Ghana has faced in recent years, highlighting severe crises in key sectors. However, he expressed confidence in the new ministers’ ability to address these issues, particularly in the economy and energy sectors, which he identified as critical to the country’s recovery.
The first six ministers, sworn in on Tuesday, will be responsible for handling some of the most pivotal areas of national governance, marking the beginning of a renewed government focused on addressing the country’s most urgent needs.
This marks the start of what President Mahama hopes will be a transformative period for Ghana, with a streamlined cabinet and a focus on efficiency to reset the country’s path toward progress and development.
