President Mahama institutes 7-member National Economic Dialogue committee

President John Dramani Mahama has set up a National Economic Dialogue as part of his 120-day Social Contract with Ghanaians.

This is in fulfillment of his promise during the campaign period to convene a National Economic Dialogue aimed at developing a four-year fiscal consolidation program, which he views as a key component of his strategy to rebuild the economy.

To achieve this, he has established a seven-member National Economic Dialogue Planning Committee, chaired by Dr. Ishmael Yamson.

The committee’s members include Dr. K.Y. Amoako, Professor John Gatsi, Mohammed Samara, Nelly Mireku, Anthony Sarpong, and Ernest De-Graft Egyir.

Their primary objective is to plan a National Economic Dialogue (NED) that will provide a platform for discussing the country’s pressing development challenges.

According to the President, the NED aims to achieve three key objectives:

Communicate the true state of Ghana’s economy: Stakeholders and the people of Ghana will be informed about the current economic situation.

Develop a homegrown fiscal consolidation programme: A national budget will be guided by a programme tailored to Ghana’s specific needs.

Highlight key structural reforms and policy priorities: Essential reforms and policies will be identified to reset the economy and transform Ghana into a high-growth, inclusive, and resilient economy.

The NED Planning Committee has four weeks to submit a report outlining the following tasks:

<span;>- Agenda Setting: Develop a comprehensive agenda aligned with the objectives of the NED.

Documentation and Reporting: Record the proceedings and prepare a detailed report, including policy recommendations.

Communications Plan: Design and implement a communication strategy to promote and disseminate information about the dialogue.
