Planned demonstration in Tema over an attempt to appoint Asare Kwasi Darko to lead TDC
Investigations carried out by the press indicate that Tema and its environs would demonstrate against the appointment of Mr. Asare Kwasi Darko as MD for TDC
According to the grassroots who spoke to the press, Mr. Asare Kwasi Darko is an NPP politician and his attempts to secure a leadership position at Tema Development Corporation (TDC) would not augur well for President Mahama.
This development has sparked serious controversy since Mr. Darko is currently in court against the same organization.
Some critics questioned how he can advocate to lead an institution he is legally challenging.
Investigations carried out also suggest that a prominent figure is lobbying at the presidency for his appointment and this had angered the NDC grassroots in the Tema enclave.
The NDC grassroots in Tema are seriously preparing to hit the ground with a massive demonstration if Mr. Darko is given the nod to lead TDC.
It is alleged that due to personal and land-related interests he shouldnt be given the nod since many believe this move is driven by selfish motives rather than the corporation’s best interest.
Stakeholders also argue that TDC deserves a leader with integrity and commitment to public service, not someone entangled in legal battles or private agendas.
They told the press that someone who was involved in alleged illegal land sales and changed documents and was taken through all necessary disciplinary channels and dismissed shouldn’t be handed over TDC.
They cautioned the business man close to President lobbying for Mr. Darko to be guided since such a character doesn’t fit the MD position of the TDC Ghana Limited.
Calls are growing for a transparent selection process that prioritizes competence, loyalty and contribution towards the great NDC party over favoritism and nepotism.
The grassroots, the party people in Tema central , Tema East, Tema West, Ashaiman are angry and have vowed to resist anyone that is not one of them.
They said their fingers are crossed awaiting government’s decision on whether qualifications and merit will prevail over political maneuvering and nepotism.
When Mr. Asare Kwasi Darko was contacted for his side of the story, he said ” as far as I know, it is the prerogative of the President, John Dramani Mahama to appoint MDs. So how does one vie for such a position, which is supposed to be appointed by the President?”
A Senior staff member of TDC who spoke on the condition of anonymity confirmed that some persons were having legal issues with TDC at the Tema High Court and Mr. Darko is part but the legal matter is pivoted on procedural breaches and miscommunication.
According to the grassroots, the Business man close to the president is doing all he can for Mr. Darko to be appointed MD of TDC for his own parochial gains adding that the Business man had engaged in a lot of illegal land issues in the Tema enclave.
