NDC revocation of last minute appointments baseless-Richard Ahiagbah

Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has blasted President John Dramani Mahama’s recent order to revoke appointments made to the public sector after December 7, 2024.

He maintained that these terminations disregard the rights of diligent young Ghanaians who legitimately earned their jobs and violate due process.

He claims the President’s actions under the pretext of “good governance practices and principles” have no legal justification.

Richard Ahiagbah described the move as a “dangerous precedent” that threatens the future of Ghanaian youth.

In a statement posted on X,Richard Ahiagbah argued that the affected individuals are not second-class citizens and have a right to work, having gone through a rigorous selection process.

“The order by CoS Mr. Julius Debrah directing the revocation of the appointments and recruitments made after the December 7 election is inconsistent with the 1992 Constitution, Article 66(1). H.E. Akufo-Addo was president until H.E. John Dramani Mahama was sworn in on 7 January 2025, notwithstanding his victory on 7 December 2024. Therefore, the decisions within that time frame by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia Administration are binding on the Mahama government and others after it. Mr. Julius Debrah’s effort to invalidate the former administration’s decision is an affront to the Constitution and an imminent threat to our democracy. To the victims, I say insist on your civil and human rights. Go to court to stop this gross abuse of the Constitution.. This is not what Ghanaians bargained for… Mawuli.”

Richard Ahiagbah emphasized that leadership entails the duty to respect and uphold constitutional principles, questioning whether the President had so swiftly forgotten his oath to uphold Ghana’s laws.
