Members of the Majority and Minority Caucuses argued over Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s background checks during an Appointments Committee meeting, escalating tensions.
When the Minority suggested moving the vetting to Friday due to worries over the day’s activities, the dispute broke out. Majority members, however, disagreed with this recommendation and insisted that the vetting proceed as planned.
The majority refused to back down, claiming that the vetting should continue uninterrupted and that the committee was operating according to its predetermined agenda.
As tensions rose, the vetting room saw an increased security presence. The Minority remained steadfast in its stance, requesting that no additional nominations be reviewed, citing an agreement to vet only four nominees and adjourn for the day.
As the dispute between the two factions escalated, the committee’s work came to a halt, with both sides unwilling to budge from their stances.
