Akufo-Addo accepts NAPO’s resignation as Energy Minister

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as Minister for Energy, effective July 18, 2024.

According to a statement from the Presidency, Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s resignation is to enable him to focus on his new role as the Vice-Presidential Candidate and Running Mate to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming elections.

President Akufo-Addo expressed his gratitude to Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his dedicated service, stating, “His tenure as Minister for Education and as Minister for Energy has been marked by a stellar record of accomplishments and significant contributions to the education and energy sectors.”

The President has tasked the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, to oversee the Ministry of Energy, while the Minister-of-State-designate at the Ministry of Energy, Herbert Krapa, will handle the day-to-day administration.

“I extend my best wishes and God’s blessings to Dr. Opoku Prempeh in his new role, and am confident that he will continue to serve the party and the nation with distinction,” President Akufo-Addo said.
